Prepare Yourself, Darling! BurlyCon has hit Seattle

A few weeks back we were lucky enough to spend some time chatting with the perfectly gorgeous Miss Indigo Blue. The 2011 Miss Exotic World burlesque performer is also the headmistress of The Academy of Burlesque and founded the BurlyCon Burlesque Convention. Now in its 7th year, the BurlyCon Burlesque Convention has come to Seattle once more, bringing with it some of the sharpest and sauciest burlesque talent the world of flirtation has ever seen. Sin in Linen is so proud to be one of the sponsors of BurlyCon this year.

BurlyCon is known for its full-hearted approach to creating a supportive community through the fun, educational convention. According to their official website, “Our aim is to further the current development and historical knowledge of this unique American art form . . . [and] is committed to providing an affordable opportunity for performers of all levels to learn, grow, and develop their skills. Unlike other burlesque conventions, BurlyCon is focused entirely on building a community, on educating this community, and forming social events to help build that community. It comes as a surprise to some, but there are actually no burlesque shows or contests at BurlyCon. The focus and purpose of the convention is rooted in the heartbeat of education and community.

To get a taste of what fun festivities BurlyCon is offering, some of the classes available this year are “Tassel Twirling,” “Burlesque Comedy,” and “Big Bad Fan Dance.” The sense of humor that is essential to the art of burlesque can be seen in the names of several classes, such as “A Sparkle Addict’s Guide to Rhinestones” and “Beyond Hot Glue and Desperation.” You’re guaranteed to laugh while you’re also learning. In addition, there is a BurlyBar open Thurs – Saturday night for socializing until 11:00pm and there’s a midnight social Saturday night. Needless to say there is plenty of time and opportunity for getting know all the fabulous attendees.

And speaking of attendees, each year BurlyCon welcomes esteemed guests of honor who not only enrich the convention by teaching several classes, but are welcomed to invite at the Keynote Address. This year BurlyCon is welcoming the guests of honor Delilah Jones and Ronnie Magri and are joining such past guests of honor (and living legends) such as Ellion Ness and Bic Carrol.

BurlyCon runs from November 12th – 15th. To find more information, view the class schedule, or register, please visit the BurlyCon website! And as always, when looking for sexy housewares and bedding to get you in the burlesque-style mood check out our fabulous finds at Sin in Linen.
