How to Throw a KILLER Halloween Party

October has finally arrived. A month for finding seduction and danger in the darkest of places. This morning we woke in Seattle to the first truly rainy day we’ve seen this fall and let me tell you…it feels romantic as hell. The leaves are sharply turning colors, the gutters are filling with bubbling water, Halloween is right around the corner AND WE ARE SO EXCITED. My panties are about to drop lower than the temperatures outside. Did we mention that the word “sin” is in our name? Which means we probably love everything sinful? Which means we definitely love all things Halloween related!?

This why we are so hot and bothered to help you throw the most badass, sexy, Hannibal-level killer party ever (okay maybe not that killer). This week and next we’re giving you tricks and treats to be the talk of the neighborhood. You’re gonna be like the Norman Bates of your ‘hood, just creepy and sexy as fuck. Read on.

Decor Tricks

  • Play Around with Sinister Colors and Textures
    • Choose a color palette that matches your party-mood. Whether it’s the traditional black and orange, or a more
romantic combo of dark red and gold, have fun with different styles.
    • Don’t be afraid to mix and match textures. From black velvet, to sheer lace, to dark red silk, you should fill your home with the darkest and most dangerous of textures.
  • Cover Your Walls With Darkness
    • Print off a variety of spooky vintage images and hang them around your home in old, dusty frames. If you’re not sure where to start think of old medical drawings (ew).
    • Cut out black bats, spiders, or shadows of body parts and hang them around your home. All you need is a pair of scissors, black paper, and a dark imagination.
    • If you’re really feeling saucy, splatter white sheets with fake blood (seriously, make sure it’s fake) and then hang the sheets against your walls.
  • Fill the Air With fall
    • Don’t forget the power of scent. Find dark and seductive candles that you can light for your guests. We are in love with Nightshade Botanicals, which produce breathtakingly earthen products such as this “Protect” candle. You may need it.
    • Find yourself a kickass cauldron and toil-and-trouble some spicy, fragrant, beverage. Think of cinnamon, cloves, apples, and pumpkins…anything that makes your home tempting.

Recipe Treats

  •  Join the Spirits
    • This stunningly gorgeous cocktail from The Jewels of New York takes its inspiration from the tale of Sleepy Hollow.

      Makes 1 cocktail

      ½ ounce absinthe

      2  ounces mezcal

1  oz st. elizabeth allspice dram

      2 dashes angostura bitters

      rosemary sprig, for garnish

Pour absinthe into a rocks glass; swirl to coat, and discard liqueur.

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, then add mezcal, st. elizabeth, and 2 dashes of bitters. Strain cocktail into a glass over ice. Light rosemary with a lighter or culinary torch until smoking and place it in the glass. Serve immediately.

  • Eat Your Fears
    • If you’ve ever wanted to feed your party guests “poison” apples atop a melt-in-your-mouth chocolate cake, now is your chance. This salted caramel apple snickers cake from Half Baked Harvest is not only a beautiful treat for the eyes, but a delicious masterpiece of tastes. The recipe is too long to post here, but trust us. You’ll want to try it out.
